Inspired by coastal North Carolina, the Scotts Medical Center installation combines the beauty of the natural landscape surrounding it with the vibrant history of surfing on the coasts. Farrenkopf collaborated on this project with a worldwide surfer to select two surfboards: a vintage longboard with a swallow tail and a professionally-designed board by a local artist. The project engages with the tensions between authentic representations of history and aesthetic demands of public space, resulting in a installation which is both practical for the medical setting and beautiful for patient experience.
